Perry Jonathan Gatch, III
Perry “PJ” has been teaching in Pittsburgh since 1990 and has since built one of the most successful studios in the area. Every year several of PJ’s students go on to study at some of the finest music schools in the country.
PJ earned his Bachelors of Science in Music Education and Masters of Music Performance at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA.
A highly acclaimed expert in percussion pedagogy, PJ maintains a private studios in Wexford, PA, and in the Beaver area. He is Artist in Residence at Seneca Valley High School, adjunct music education and performance faculty member at Duquesne University, and is the Director of Percussion Studies at Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA.
PJ has presented numerous clinics and masterclasses throughout the country and, since 2010, has been the percussion education and performance contributor for the PMEA Journal (Pennsylvania Music Educators Association), published quarterly. His articles have also appeared in The National Federation of State High School Associations.
PJ maintains a busy playing and recording schedule throughout the year. Some of his engagements include the Pittsburgh Musical Theater, The Pittsburgh Public Theater, Pittsburgh Opera, Pittsburgh Ballet, River City Brass Band, City Theater, CLO Cabaret Theater, and the Westminster Faculty Jazz Quartet. PJ has performed throughout the United States, Europe, and Russia and has collaborated with some of the finest names in percussion including Stanley Leonard, Steve Houghton, Michael Burritt, and Leigh Howard Stevens.
