Paul Sisco, Piano Teacher:

Pittsburgh native Paul Sisco began piano lessons with his father (a church organist) and clarinet lessons with his uncle (a jazz clarinetist) at the age of five. In his early days he often performed in local churches and jazz clubs. He received full scholarships from Duquesne University and Yale University where he completed a Master of Music degree in piano performance. He was a Heinz scholar at Yale and recipient of the Catherine Winchell award for outstanding piano performance. At Yale, he studied piano with Claude Frank, Seymour Lipkin and Boris Berman, and composition with Martin Bresnick and Maury Yeston.

Paul's 30 year concert career has taken him throughout the US, Mexico, Canada, and Europe. A featured guest soloist numerous times with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, as well as other orchestras in the tri-state area, he has performed the piano concertos of Beethoven , Liszt, MacDowell, Saint Saens and Shostakovich. As a chamber musician, he concertized extensively with world renowned flutist Bernard Goldberg for 12 years and has performed hundreds of chamber works with world class musicians including members of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia, Cleveland and Boston Symphony Orchestras. An avid fan of jazz, Paul has recorded and performed with jazz legends Doc Severinsen, Lou Schreiber, Joe Negri, Bobby Boswell and Ernie Matteo. Occasionally he likes to include one of his original compositions along with standard works on recital programs.

Paul was a featured guest on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood - where he played and talked about piano pieces by Beethoven and Debussy - and has made numerous radio and television appearances throughout his career. A first prize winner of several local and national piano competitions including - The Pittsburgh Concert Society Major Auditions (both as soloist and chamber musician), The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra, and MTNA  - he is often called upon to adjudicate music competitions in and outside the Pittsburgh area.

Paul has served on the piano faculty at Pitt University and as head of the Chatham College Laboratory School of Music. He currently serves on the Chatham University piano faculty where he joined in 1986, and enjoys teaching students of all ages and levels through his private piano studio.
