Heather Johnson, French Horn Teacher:
Heather Johnson attended The Curtis Institute of Music at age seventeen. Her major teachers include Myron Bloom, Dr. Fred Ehnes, Mason Jones, William Purvis, and Frøydis Wekre. In addition to studying extensively with teachers from the Norwegian Academy of Music, she holds degrees in horn performance from The Curtis Institute of Music and Stony Brook University, and a masters in conducting from The Dana School of Music.
A native of Muncie, Indiana, she has attended several music festivals, including Tanglewood BUTI, Interlochen Arts Camp, Eastern Music Festival, Recontres Musicales d’Évian, Le Domaine Forget de Charlevoix, Ashlawn-Highland Opera Festival, HfM Franz List Weimarer Meisterkurse, and the Banff Centre. Her past ensemble experiences include The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass, Philadelphia Ballet, Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia; and the Columbus, Charleston, Syracuse, and Jupiter Symphonies. Current positions include the Youngstown Symphony, Cleveland Pops, Opera Western Reserve, Warren Philharmonic, and the Pittsburgh Academy Chamber Orchestra.
Heather performs extensively in Pennsylvania and Ohio. She is on the faculty of Slippery Rock University, Westminster College, and the Luzerne Music Center. She also maintains two private studios. She lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, a luthier and Juilliard-trained double bassist.
