About Us
The PYCO Children’s Chorus is an ensemble for treble voices open to students in 1st-5th grades. In this program, students will learn healthy, age-appropriate vocal production, strengthen music reading skills, and develop their inner ear through the use of solfege. Students will be introduced to the concept of ensemble singing as opposed to solo singing, and will learn to sing unison and two-part repertoire in a variety of classical and contemporary styles. The PYCO Children’s Chorus will perform in seasonal concerts with other PYCO ensembles and may also participate in special community events throughout the year. |
Our Philosophy
The PYCO Children’s Chorus strives to emphasize the joy of singing and the development of the whole child through diverse musical experiences of the highest caliber. It is our aim to help young singers improve their instruments and their knowledge of musical concepts in a fun, engaging, and supportive learning environment. Students will be instructed using a variety of pedagogical approaches, including Kodaly, Music Learning Theory, and Dalcroze. We strive to provide a stimulating and nurturing environment in which every singer can grow - musically, intellectually and personally. We hope that the PYCO Children’s Chorus experience will open doors to a life-long enjoyment of music for every child. |
