Andrew Symington, French Horn Teacher:

Andrew Symington is a freelance French horn player and teacher based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He regularly performs with ensembles such as ProMusica Chamber Orchestra (Columbus, OH), the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra (WV), Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra, and The Brass Roots (Pittsburgh). He was 2nd Horn with Symphoria (Syracuse, NY) from 2019 to 2021. Andrew’s private horn students have auditioned successfully for Three Rivers Young People’s Orchestra (Pittsburgh) and the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra (GA). He is a horn teacher at the Pittsburgh Youth Concert Orchestra (PYCO) School of Music.

Andrew is the author of the blog, “New Symphony Listeners Guide.” The blog aims to draw people into the experience of diverse sounds and emotions found in symphonies of lesser popular stature than those in the standard orchestral repertoire. His article about composer William Grant Still is published in the online arts publication, Raft Magazine.

Andrew lives with his wife, Larissa, who works as a high school Athletic Trainer. Together they enjoy serving in their church (Vintage Church Pittsburgh), spending time outdoors, playing sports, hanging out with friends, and playing with their cats, Valkyrie and Fingolfin.
