Yana Tyulkova, Piano Teacher & Voice Teacher:

Yana Tyulkova, former Artistic Director of International Festival Jazz Russia, Nizhny Novgorod, became the laureate of N. Novgorod State Competition of young Composers in 1994. In 1995 she became the Laureate of Russian Piano Competition (Novomoskovsk, Russia) and finished N. Novgorod Music College. In 1997 Yana was voted “Best Vocalist of N.Novgorod State Pop-Rock-Blues Competition”.

In 2001, Yana finished N. Novgorod State Conservatory (Classical Piano) and attended the Berklee College of Music 5-week Performance Program (Jazz Vocal). Yana was awarded a performance grant to attend the Berklee College of Music 12-weeks Performance Program during the summer of 2002.

In May 2015 Yana received her DMA degree in classical piano performance from West Virginia University. Her additional duties have included accompanying for the Opera Studio, accompanying for the Same Difference jazz vocal group, accompanying the University Choir, and teaching private lessons. In March 2012, Yana performed with the WVU Symphony as a Young Artist winner. In July 2012, Yana became one of the finalists in the International Festival and Competition “The Intersection of Jazz and Classical Music” and performed in a Master Class with legendary Leon Fleisher. In March 2013 she performed in a Master Class for Stephen Schmidt.

Yana has studied with Lisa Thorson, Maggi Scott, Entony Jermain, Devid Johnson, Donna McElRoy, and Denis Montgomery, and Kim Nazarian of “New York Voices”. Yana was named a member of “Who’s Who in Russia”, Ralph Hubner Edition, (2008) and became a member of “Encyclopedia of World Jazz Music”, Vladimir Feiertag, St. Petersburg. (2008)

Students of Yana’s JVS became the laureates of International Children Vocal Competitions: “Baby Sing-2004 - 2008” (Lituania),”Opus-2006”(Spain),”Berlina Perla-2006”(Germany), and ”Sounds and Colors of the World - 2008” (St. Petersburg).
Yana’s students study now at Berklee College of Music in Boston and Gnesina University in Moscow.

Yana worked at Musik Innovations (2010-2015) in Pittsburgh teaching vocal and piano students. Yana has also performed as a pianist and solo vocalist with the Latshaw Pops Show and Orchestra from Greensburg, PA and the group “New Directions.” Yana is also a featured vocalist with the Vince Villanova Big Band out of Follansbee, WV.
