Jason Hohn, Violin Teacher & Viola Teacher:

Praised for his "exquisite tone" (CVNC: Classical Voice of North Carolina), Jason Hohn began his studies in Bismarck, ND. Mr. Hohn received his Bachelor of Arts in Music and German Studies from Minot State University as a student of Dr. Jon Rumney and pursued his Master of Music in Viola Performance at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Music under the tutelage of Toby Appel. As a member of the Dorothy J. Starling Foundation String Quartet, Jason has been featured in performances at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Steinway Hall, Severance Hall, and Tong Ji University in Shanghai.

Jason has studied chamber music with members of the Ying Quartet, Los Angeles Piano Quartet, and the Cuarteto Latinoamericano. As a recipient of numerous fellowships to some of the finest music institutions, he has studied at the Brevard Music Center, the National Orchestral Institute, the American Institute of Music Studies in Graz, Austria, and the Ohio Light Opera. He presented the world premiere performance of Armando Bayolo's ...Waiting to Sing... for viola and piano in June 2013.

As a member of the Freya String Quartet, he has held residencies with the Charlotte New Music Festival and Opera Theater Summerfest, and has collaborated with a wide variety of artists spanning the genres from pop to classical. In addition, they have given numerous educational and outreach presentations in the greater Pittsburgh area in a wide variety of venues.
Having adopted Pittsburgh as his hometown, Jason maintains a viola and violin studio in McCandless and Fox Chapel and performs regularly with ensembles such as the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra, Opera Theater Summerfest, Resonance Works | Pittsburgh, the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, and the Pittsburgh Ballet Orchestra. He is currently working towards his MBA at the University of Pittsburgh, and also serves as a Board Member of Resonance Works | Pittsburgh.

In his spare time he enjoys running, gardening, and obsessing over his two miniature dachshunds. He plays a contemporary viola made by American luthier Kelvin Scott.
